Handle Up Or Handle Down?
After you wash up the cutlery, do you put your knives, forks or spoons with the handle in the cutlery drain or with the handle sticking up? I chose handle down so that more cutlery can be put in, so that I can see what is a spoon or fork, but also to stop the eating part of the cutlery getting coated with the scum in the bottom of the cutlery drain. On the otherhand, handle up means you only touch the cutlery by the handle. So what do you do? Automatic dishwasher-owners need not reply 
I work in school kitchen and we put handle down so the water drains from where you eat to the bottom- more hygienic.
Just make sure your hands are clean when putting them away.
Sharp knives are put flat and separate.
Handles down for forks and spoons, but handles up for knives of all kind.
Got cut by a knife (blade up) once when reaching for a bowl in the dark. It can be quite dangerous.
I put my forks and spoons handle down. As for the knives, handle up for sure so no one will accidentally cut themselves. As for handling them and putting them away, we make sure to touch only the handles. When I’m setting the table, I usually like to wipe them off with a clean dish towel first.
I place them handle up. Because I don’t want my roommates touching the working end of the silverware with their hands after working on cars or the house.
I put my spoons and forks facing upward and my knives facing down- so i don’t cut mysalf and I know whats what. If you’re worried about the drainer being filthy than you should wash that first- thus avoiding the problem.
handle up. in victorian times handles were made of ivory or bone. and if handles were down water would get into the handle and it would become loose. ivory was very expensive back then.. handles down is safer as well.
Handles up, as you say that way you don’t touch the eating part with your hands.
After washing up I lay the pots and cutlery on the draining board rubber mat and then dry everything and put the pots in the cupboard and the cutlery in the drawer.
I put them handle down as they sometimes tip over if I put the handles up. Sharp knives are laid flat in the drainer.
I always go with handle up. Keeps me from getting stabbed by my own utensils. (Or anyone else, too)
i do it the same as you but hubby and daughter do it opposite way
we lay it down! lol

I put knives with handle up.Everything else handle down.
I chose handle up because I might cut myself if I have to grab a knife by the blade. Also you don’t get your germs back on the clean silverware and you can put it away without dirtying it again.
I say facing down so you don’t touch the the part of the utensil that you put in food or goes into your mouth.
