Bear and Son make several different butterfly knives. One of the smaller versions they make is the 113. The 113 measures in at 7 1/2″ when fully open. The 113 is available in two different models, either the 113 or the 113B. The “B” version has a black die cast handle and the 113 model has a Stardust die cast metal handle. Other than that, both models have all the same specifications.
One of my favorite things about the 113 series is the size. At just 4″ when closed, it is very easy to carry in your pocket. This butterfly knife is perfect to pull out whenever you have a few minutes so you can practice your newest move. I also like the fact that all the Bear and Son butterfly knives are built with pin construction. This means that there is no fiddling with screws that can come lose or fall out. The Bear and Son 113 is the perfect little butterfly knife, if you haven’t tried one yet, give it a try.

We get tons of requests for good trainer butterfly knives. We have found a few that seem to stand up to the beating a trainer usually takes. The Bear & Sons trainer does a good job. Spyderco’s Spyderfly 02 trainer is a great trainer butterfly–but has now been discontinued. The Ronin Gear Trainer butterfly knife is our newest trainer and it stands up to some heavy duty abuse. We took one of these knives and started bashing it against everything we could ifnd int he office to simulate the effects of a lot of drops and a few other bangs a trainer butterfly generally gets during a it’s lifetime. This one stood the test. We aren’t suggesting you go and do the same, I am sure you can figure out a way to break one of these. But, what I am saying, is that overall, this remarkably inexpensive trainer stands up to a whole lot of abuse. The handles are fairly narrow. They are also skeletonized. The blade is dull on both edges and should not be sharpened. It is built with pin construction which will allow it to last even longer. Overall, while this may not be the very best trainer on the market, it is certainly a good one.

Benchmade recently released their first H&K knife designed by Steirer Eisen. This knife, the Monochrome Folder Knife, is built strong and durable for whatever circumstances you may find yourself in. The drop point blade is made of N690 stainless steel (RH of 58-60) and has a length of 3.04″. This all black blade looks and cuts good. The blade is opened with either of the ambidextrous thumb studs. As you slide it open, the blade opens smooth. As the blade opens, there is no feeling of looseness or wobble that you sometimes find with some folder knives. The blade locks in place with a monolock. A monolock is similar in nature and function to a framelock with a slightly different look. At a full 7.37″ when open, the Monochrome is a big enough knife to get nearly any job done.
The handle features some jimping at the top on both the spine and the belly of the handle. The jimping makes for a solid grip. The skeletonized handle reduces weight and gives the Monochrome a great look. Available in either a standard plain edge blade (Model 14320BK) or in a part serrated blade (Model 14320SBK), the Monochrome is a nice, affordable folder knife built by a company you can trust.

Pro-Tech knives are easily some of the very best made automatic knives currently on the market. Made in a production facility but then individually hand assembled for a fantastic fit as well as a high quality finished look, each one of their auto knives has quality stamped all over it. From the top quality materials used in each knife to the unique inlays that many of the knives have, Pro-Tech makes great knives. One of their most popular lines is the Godfather line of knives. An extension of this line of knives is the Godson series. The Godson knives carry the same look and feel of the Godfather knives but are constructed smaller for those who prefer a smaller knife.
The Pro-Tech Godson auto knife, model PT704, is a great example of one of their many fantastic automatic knives in the Godson line. This knife has a 6061 T6 aluminum frame in black with amazing carbon fiber inlay. The trigger button, when depressed, fires a satin finish blade of 154-CM stainless steel with a plain edge. Like each of the Pro-Tech knives, the blade snaps out amazingly fast and the lock up is nice and tight. The knife also features a pocket clip.
Each Pro-Tech knife, this one included, has that quality look you typically find in custom shops. This knife, the Godson PT704, is perfect for an every day carry knife or to add to your collection. One thing I especially like about Pro-Tech knives is that you can build a collection around a single style of knife or you can build it around a specific look. For instance, you could collect a variety of different Godson variations–each with a unique inlay material. Or, if you really like the look of this model, with its carbon fiber inlay, you could begin to collect a variety of Pro-Tech knife lines–each with a carbon fiber inlay. Whether you get the Godson as your very first Pro-Tech knife or you get it as an addition to your collection, I do know that you will be amazed and delighted with the quality of your new Pro-Tech knife.
